A hidden truth about the Law of Attraction

The Law of Attraction has been around for quite some time, well before Abraham and Ms. Hicks popularized it. It’s actually related to the Hermetic Principles, so it’s interesting to see how almost all of the focus ends up being on attraction and hardly any of the other equally important principles of creation get talked about.

But today I’m going to focus on just one factor impacting the Law of Attraction (LoA) that doesn’t get discuss enough, yet has a huge (and typically negative) effect on people when they practice LoA. In fact, this impact is so unexpected that it derails most people’s faith in their ability to create the life they want.

And yes, this factor is one of the Hermetic Laws. It is called the Law of Polarity. In modern physics, we hear about this law in the saying, “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” It’s also called the Law of Opposites.

In the LoA, the law of polarity works this way: when we call to ourselves the image of a desired goal, it automatically activates the polarity principle by rather quickly showing us the opposite of what we want.

Do you want more wealth? Suddenly you seem to have no money left in your bank account, you see homeless people everywhere, and you find yourself engaging in fantasies of eating cat food out of the can. What’s happening here?

The simple truth is, we can have no idea about what “A” is without knowing what “Not-A” is. The idea of “wealth” has no meaning in a world that does not contain experiences of “not-wealth.” It’s the same for hot and cold, near and far, old and young, and almost every other facet of our dualistic world. These apparent opposites actually exist along a spectrum where each defines the other. Hot without cold? Never gonna happen.

So, when you call wealth or any other goal to mind, the “not-that” condition (again, part of the full spectrum that literally defines its meaning) is called to the foreground to assist in your new self-definition. It cannot not happen (yes, that was a double negative) – it’s physics. Unfortunately, many people interpret the sudden influx of apparently negative images and energies as some kind of “evidence” that their goals are not meant to be. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Each instance of contrast can be used as a way of practicing your manifesting energy field – I call this the “M-Field” (Abraham would say The Vortex) – by saying, “Yes, I really do want this thing that I’m asking for,” or by reflecting more and perhaps altering what you want by a little bit or a lot. You might even change your mind completely and say, “No thank you” or “not now.”

Here’s another way to think of it. You’ve heard of the mythological motif of knocking three times before a secret door will open? This motif can show up as three challenges to overcome, three riddles to answer, three puzzles to solve, etc. Each instance gives you the opportunity to move forward through the door into a new possibility, or to say no, that’s not what I really want.

With each contrasting experience, you can restate what you truly want and focus on it, or step back into your current conditions and not take the leap into a new reality.

Now, I’m not saying that some impersonal force is testing you. I’m saying that through your desire, you (the bigger You) are testing yourself. The test is simply this: are you showing up as the fully aligned M-Field for this desire  – or not? In other words, do you want this? Are you sure? Are you really sure? (See? Three knocks.)

In a world where people’s mental energy is largely undisciplined, you can see the difficulty we would have if everyone’s thoughts immediately manifested. So it’s my belief that to some degree, in addition to what could be called the “manifestational physics” of polarity, the three knocks provides a safety valve. I also believe that once we get very clear about what we want, we simply slide right past the appearances of contrast.

So, next time you focus on a goal of manifestation, learn to embrace the contrasting appearances and to align your M-Field with their help.

Oh, no! You mean everything in the universe is helping me?

Yes, that’s exactly what I mean. 😉

Now, go forward and create!

Thanks to Neale Donald Walsch for so clearly articulating this idea of polarity in relationship to LoA. However, I am not claiming to be accurately representing NDW’s ideas. What I share above is my understanding, so don’t blame him if you don’t like it 🙂
